Utilization of sawmill capacities in S.R. Croatia

The paper deals with the saw log production, installed capacities and their use in S. R. Croatia. In the socially-owned forests of S. R. Croatia the yearly saw log production is about 1,300.000 m3 while in 1974 1,612.000 m3 of saw logs were sawed. In stalled sawmills in S.R. Croatia can saw 2,300.000 m3 of saw logs yearly in two shifts while in 1974 they were used by 700% only. It is found out that 84% of saw logs is sawed in sawmills with the capacity of 25 .000 ma or more yearly, in two shifts. Considering the above stated it is concluded that there exist real possibilities for full mechanization of forest exploitation and sawmills production in S.R. Croatia. It is necessary to introduce optimal mechanization in these sawmills and complete two phases processing by purposive sawed timber and dimension stock production.
