Abstract:

The article deals with influential factors on the gluing time of veneer, with an emphasis on the intensity of temperature changes in the joints. As established, the press plates' temperature, where the gluing is done, has no deciding influence on the time of gluing. However, the intensity of the temperature rise in the joints, which depends essentially on the thickness of veneer, plays a crucial role.

It has been found that the hardening of glue in the joints at a constant press plates temperature is faster if the temperature rise in the joints is more intense. Additionally, the glue hardens at a higher temperature for a longer time, meaning it hardens longer at a lower temperature if the temperature rise in the joint is slower.

The coefficients of temperature conductivity have been determined when gluing veneer on three-layer chipboard (αx = 2.38 × 10⁻⁴ m²/h) on the joiner's board (αx = 5.1 × 10⁻⁴ m²/h). The influence of the board thickness on the temperature flow in the joint has been examined, establishing that by gluing veneer on chipboard thicknesses of 16 mm and above, considering the press plates' temperature and gluing time, the process of warming up can be considered as one-sided. In connection with this, a relatively simple equation for calculating the temperature flow has been obtained by solving the essential differential equation for the temperature flow using Laplace transform.

Finally, investigations have been carried out on the starting moment for the loss of capacity of moistening and the time of glue hardening, depending on the intensity of the temperature rise in the joints.
