Abstract:

This article produces the data on yield of beech sawlogs on the basis of experimental sawing in bigger sawmills in the Social Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In one group of experimental sawing the yield of logs in single-stage and two-stage conversion has been compared. Higher yield has been achieved by two-stage conversion. In the other group of experimental sawing effect of diameter and length as well quality of logs and the method of sawing (can't sawing, round sawing, sawing parallel with the log axis and taper sawing) has been investigated. Beechwood logs with large folse heart of I: grade, diameter more than 34 cm, give higher yield if sawed on band-saw by cant method. The logs of II. and III. grade give higher yield by round sawing.
