Abstract:

Roughness of surface i.e. quality of sawnboards surface is evaluated ocularly, as the simplest way, by examining saw marks, indentations, appearance of fibrousness and chipped grain, and the like. A more precise determination of the surface condition is the measuring of indentations with the comparator in comparison with the level surface it lies on. Today many other methods of measuring the roughness of surface are known, from measuring the size of shade (optical method), measuring of size of feeler oscillations which glides on the surface, or by converting oscillations into electric impulses, to the method of determining the roughness of wood surface by the integral appraisal of the surface condition.
