Consumption of energy at kiln drying of lumber and potential solutions for its saving

Abstract:

This paper discusses the consumption of thermal and electrical energy at kiln drying of lumber. The data show the steam consumption for drying sawn timber, according to Soviet and American results and our own measuring. Distribubion of the heat consumed at drying, according to German and American authors has been discussed in relation to drying of lumber in Yugoslavia. The potentlal solutions of the thermal energy saving (recuperation, technological discipline, drying systems) have been discussed. On the basis of experiments the results of drying rough dimension stock have been analyzed in relation to the process of drying sawn boards and manufacture of elements. After making examinations on consumption of electrical energy at drying in this country, some potential solutions of its saving (technological discipline, unfilled drying plant, quantity and optimum speed of air circulation) have been indicated.
