Possibility of evaluating combustibility of wooden materials by means of oxygen index

A simple method for evaluating the reaction of wood and wood based panels to fire is presented. The basis was the comprehensive work by R. H. White who first took this method from the field of plastic masses, studied it thoroughly and suggested its application in testing wooden materials. In this paper the authors give the results of their research which correspond to the results from literature thus confirming the possibility of applying this method for testing wood and wooden materials. The method can be applied for evaluating flame spread index and the loss of mass (by various methods), since R. H. White also gave the results of comparative investigations whose results are graphically shown.
