Abstract:

The paper presents the results of research of hygroscopic features of the bark of some domestic species of wood. The examined fiber saturation point for bark is : beech 26.5%, hornbeam 24.8%, oak 23.1%, ash 30.1%, poplar 24.7% and fir 33.6%. It is lower than the saturation point for the same species of wood except a.sh. It was established that by taking in water the bark increases its volume above the fiber saturation point. The research has shown that existing methods should be improved and new methods and examination techniques should be found in order to study bark properties.
