Title:

Lumber defect detection as an element of automated elements production

Research subject and fields:
Abstract:

The system of automated Lumber defect detection is of crucial importance for a future system of automated element production. The defect detection system must be sensitive to changes in external and internal qualities of lumber and capable of operating under plant conditions. This paper defines and classifies lumber defects, specifies the requirements for an automated defect detection system and briefly describes various detection methods (optical, ultrasonic, microwave, X-ray and neutron method). The study also describes lumber defect detection methods in today's plant conditions.
