The effect of bacteria on wood properties

In this paper the effect of bacteria action on wood and the results of the action ate presented. Ali forms of bacterial degradation are described, regardless of whether the bacteria were active on wet or on air dry wood, on unprotected or chemically protected wood. The main point of interest are anaerobic bacteria, which degrade softwood pit membranes and thoruses on earlywood tracheids. As a result of such bacterial degradation the permeability of wood is increased, whereas its mechanical properties are not significantly decreased.
