Title:

Design of wooden staircase handrail

Research subject and fields:
Abstract:

The handrail in a staircase is the basic functional part needed for safe support when climbing stairs. The results of the analysis done by the method of corrective ergonomics with numerous design-construction variants of staircase handrails show that the designers are mainly guided by intuition, respecting the aesthetic effects and the mechanical properties of the staircase railing. A discursive approach to design and construction is based on the ergonomic principles, utilization properties of the construction, dynamic anthropometric data, and the standard quality requirements for the individual types of staircase structure.
