Title:

Standards for classifying and testing of exterior wood coatings - EN 927 - Part 1.

Research subject and fields:
Abstract:

A group of European Standards EN 927 1-5, covering exterior wood coatings, has been recently completed and accepted. The set of standards aims at classification of coatings in relation to their physical properties, according to their end-use and exposure conditions. Five standards comprise the guide for selection and classification of numerous and diverse exterior finishing materials, test methods for determination of their weathering durability, water vapour permeability and liquid water permeability. First two standards, EN 927-1 and DD ENV 927-2, should enable to end-users a simplified choice of the product which exactly suits their needs regarding the appearance and required durability. The paint manufacturers can now directly declare the class and quality of their product. All that is intended to improve the information between the manufacturer and the end-user of coatings, reduce the technical and trade barriers and support the formation of the single European market.
