Title:

Variable elements of plywood water resistance

Research subject and fields:
Abstract:

The aim of the paper is to have segmented the veneer plywood components relating to its water resistance. The type of resin and the class of bonding quality are usually considered to be the main elements to determine their waterproof property, while other elements like wood species, veneer quality and surface protection, are for the most part neglected. Those elements have a high priority when establishing suitability of plywood, which is to be used for marine structure, concrete formwork and other applications, where waterproof properties have dominant influence. A complete and adequate plywood specification could be assessed properly only after all the elements and their interaction are considered.
