Various drying technologies and their profitability

The cost of various kinds of drying, like: seasoning, predrying, kiln drying, drying by condensation, vacuum drying as well as the combined drying have been studied. On the relevant research data basis the cost of drying in Din/m3 for 20000, 40000 and 60000 m3 of sawnwood respectively has been figured out, with current assets interest of 32% and 65% respectively. The financial settlement has been made separately for sawn boards (thickness 25 and 50 mm respectively) and wood elements (dimension stock) 64 X 64 (table 1). In conclusion the author points out that combining predrying and kiln drying results in a remarkably lower drying cost in all the studied cases.
