Abstract:

The study is a monograph off industrial conversion of oak from its beginning to present days. Technology of oak sawmilling has been influenced by change of dimensions of logs, fall of raw material quality, development of finished wood industry (furniture), etc. Development of oak sawmilling technology has been considered from methods of sawing oak, conventional technology to dimension stock sawmilling technology. The entire conventional sawmilling technology, products and quantitative utilization have been analysed. The dimension stock sawmilling of oak technology has been considered from the point of its specificity, such as: characteristics of dimensions (sawn elements), methods of dimensions production, methods of sawing logs for production of sawn elements and utilization in production of dimensions. The author pays a special attention to conversion on thin oak logs (16-24 cm), for further development of oak sawmilling technology. Finally, a review of sawmilling products in the past and today has been given.
