Title:

Sanded surface quality testing

Research subject and fields:
Abstract:

The surface microgeometry was tested by quantitative method (using stylus instrument) and quantitative method (by touch evaluation) on beech and oak veneered chipboard samples sanded by means of different sanding treatments and various fineness of sandpaper. The parameters Ra, Rz and Rmax were used to determine the surface microgeometry by contact (stylus) method. It turned out that the above parameters were satisfactory enough to determine the surface microgeometry, however the parameter Ra was not suitable for oak veneered samples. The finest surface quality was achieved on the samples sanded by wide-belt contact sanding machine (grit size 100-120) additionally moistened, redried and finally sanded by belt sander (grit size 150).
