Title:

Strength and durability of glued wood Part one: Factors of glued joint strength

Research subject and fields:
Abstract:

This article presents the basic knowledge about the adhesives and gluing technique, and also discusses the factors which influence glued joint strength and durability. Some physical and chemical processes which take place in adhesion are explained and discussed. Some important properties of adhesives and wood which are involved in adhesion are also mentioned. The results of many researchers are compared, and discussed. Sticking wood together is a permanent experience in woodworking industry. Thus, the field of adhesives is very important for wood and their application, and has significant technical and economical implications. The aim of this paper is to present the complexity of adhesion phenomena, focusing on many important factors which affect adhesion.
